Pet lovers are faced with a dilemma every summer vacation. If you have a pet, you need to think about how to handle their care while you head off on vacation. There are a few different options that you should consider here and a couple of questions to ask. But first, let’s look at an important consideration.
Can You Take Your Pet With You? You might be surprised. Recently, Disney World announced that pets would be able to stay at some of their select hotels including the Art of Animation. This is described as a test run before a full rollout next year. It’s going to be running until October 2018. Now, you’re probably thinking, wait what do I do with my pet pooch while I hit the rides with the kids? Well, Disney have you covered there as well. You can leave a pet in a room for up to four hours. Or, if you want to make sure they always have company, Disney has also employed a pet daycare company. That means your pet will be having a great time at the same time you are. Cool right? It’s a great option if your pets love Disney as much as these service dogs.
Of course, even if like Disney, your hotel does provide pet accommodation, you have to question whether this is a smart move. If you’re travelling from far away, you need to take your pet on the plan. This can be very stressful for animals. On top of this, there’s the cost. It can be quite expensive.
Take A More Pet-Friendly Holiday
Alternatively, you can think about planning your holiday around your pet. In other words, don’t travel too far and look into the friendliest option for your pet possible. Arguably, this would be camping. On a camping trip, your pet will have plenty of space to roam, and you can have a lot of fun with them, taking them on walks or letting them swim in rivers if they love the water.
There are plenty of campsites around the country that welcome dog owners and other pets. You just need to make sure that they are well trained and kept under control at all times.
Use A Kennel
If you have a dog, you can consider using a boarding service for your pet. By doing this, your dog will be left with pet experts while you go and enjoy your vacation. They can get regular walks, playtime, and socialize with other dogs if they get on with them.
A Family Friend
Or, finally, you can drop your pet off with a family friend or family member while you go off on holiday. The only issue is that it can sour a relationship if your pet isn’t particularly well behaved. Remember, dogs can get nervous in new surroundings and forget their potty training. A pet expert will expect this, but a family friend may not be quite so understanding.
We hope this helps you tackle the issue of holidays and pets. As you can see, there are a few options to consider here.
